We often think coaches don’t mentor and mentors don’t coach. Not true. The most effective guides are the ones who know when to pull which lever, and meet people where they are, applying the platinum rule.

Sometimes, when we are emotionally grounded, our words flow with clarity and intention. Other times, when we are emotionally hijacked, everything that comes out feels rushed, reactive, or incomplete. It made me think more deeply about something we often overlook. The power of words.

During a major renovation, the original construction crew from the 1950s left behind a newspaper and an empty beer bottle, sealed between studs and sheetrock. Forgotten for nearly sixty years. Not destroyed. Just waiting. Reading it felt like opening a time capsule.

Why is it so hard to restart once MOMENTUM is lost? You see it every year around the holidays and even after vacations. Job searches pause. The desire to organize, reset, or restructure quietly fizzles. Learning routines get disrupted.

For years I used assessments as a shortcut to self-awareness. What I did not expect was how much they would help me understand my strengths, my blind spots, and the way others needed me to show up. When you learn who you are, you learn how to lead. When you learn who others are, you learn how to elevate them.
